McLean Bible Church had been meeting at their former facility in McLean, Virginia, where they attracted over 5000 people to worship services and Sunday School every week. Having outgrown their facility, they purchased the existing 230,000 s.f. National Wildlife Federation building and 53 acres of land in nearby Vienna, Virginia, a Washington, DC suburb.
The church immediately commenced work on a two-phased project to remodel and expand the existing National Wildlife Federation building. Phase I, included a 1,150-seat auditorium, classrooms, several large “community” rooms, and an 1100-car parking structure.
For Phase II, McLean Bible Church selected RNL, in association with Grimm & Parker Architects, to design a new 2400-seat “performing arts” worship auditorium and a new 17,000 s.f. lobby/fellowship atrium. An extensive remodel was also performed to create children’s youth spaces and administrative offices. Features include rehearsal and studio spaces, large community rooms, a gymnasium, and expanded the parking structure to 2500 spaces. Additionally, RNL designed a long-range master plan, which includes a new Ministry Center and Special Needs Center.
