This facility is one of many new police stations funded by Proposition Q, all of which faced compressed schedules and tight budgets to maximize the return on the public investment. At the same time, the City is determined to deliver projects that meet the standards of design excellence set by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission, integrate meaningful public artwork, reinforce the sense of place of Los Angeles’ varied neighborhoods and achieve a LEED Certified rating. In addition, the site is less than one half the size of typical station sites.

RNL developed a unique three-story solution that meets all of the functional requirements of this facility including an Emergency Operations Center for the Valley, and Booking/Temporary Holding that meet the Department of Corrections standards. It also contains highly flexible office space with the technology infrastructure to meet both today’s needs and future, and unknown changes in mission, program and/or technology. In addition, it provides efficient and cost effective parking for both operational vehicles and personal vehicles, while achieving design excellence with elegant massing and expressive tectonics.
