Phase I: Situated in the midst of a beautiful suburban park, the Bemis Public Library is composed of two structures. The existing complex was awkward and inflexible. Additions and reconstructions created, along with new interior layouts, signage, finishes, and technological upgrades created a symbiotic relationship between the vibrancy of nature, and the new library.

Phase II: Utilizing the existing library as an architectural background, a new addition enlivens the entry face, coffee bar, and teen area of the Bemis Public Library. The addition provides space within the existing building for a new center for the blind, renovated circulation desk, and entry. A large area for the display of new books, a friends of the library book sale, and new self check out are also part of the project. These new spaces are filled with usable daylight which will also be filtered from direct sunlight and glare, using colorful contemporary glass patterns.
