The primary goal for this project was threefold: to “change the perception of Fontana,” revitalize the downtown area and encourage growth and redevelopment of the historic commercial area. Master plan features included a civic entry drive and new civic center park, which RNL was subsequently commissioned to design. The park emphasizes the historical context to the region and provides a strong city identity. Primary elements include water, “tunnel” and orchard recalling Fontana’s rich agricultural heritage, water features, sculpted landforms, rose gardens and orange tree orchards, as well as large promenades and open space lawns.
