Metro Expo Light Rail Maintenance Facility

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA

RNL is designing a light rail maintenance and operations facility for the Exposition Metro to optimize efficiency and functionality of rail operations. Plans call for six storage tracks for three-car train sets, a light maintenance/repair shop, administration and blow-down facilities, run-through wash plant, double-track interior car cleaning platform and a traction power substation. Special care is being taken to integrate the facility into the neighborhood and reach a remarkable level of sustainability; it’s targeting LEED-NC Gold certification and net-zero energy status. Using a triple-bottom line approach for environmental, economic and social indicators, the project will set a new standard for transit facilities in the industry.
