“Separate from the herd” is how insurance powerhouse, Van Gilder, describes itself when compared to the competition. Reflecting this ideal as well as the 100 year-old evolution of the Van Gilder brand, was top priority for the company’s relocation to the new 60,000 square-foot office in downtown Denver.
In response, RNL created a dynamic office environment that reinforces the company’s collaborative work style. A slat wood ceiling encircles the core and marks the major circulation path. Glass-fronts at all private offices provide natural light and views for all workspaces. A demountable wall system utilized at the perimeter provides maximum “down-the-road” flexibility. Colorful environmental graphics serve as visual cues for collaborative work zones in each of the open office “neighborhoods.” Informal cafés, lounge spaces, standing-height “war rooms,” as well as more traditional conferencing areas are scattered throughout, promoting impromptu brainstorming and improved communication among staff.
Healthy and sustainable design solutions were given top priority. In addition to maximizing daylight and providing good quality air, materials include reconstituted walnut veneer wall panels, linoleum flooring, ceiling tile and carpet backings with high recycled content and environmentally-friendly adhesives. Fitness and locker facilities are also provided.
