The ASU Decision Theater is a state of the art facility enabling leading edge research to occur within a highly visual and interactive setting. Needing a space that would be the public face of its pioneering movement in research, ASU turned to RNL to design the facility. The resulting design creates a dynamic working environment for creative research, learning, and information exchange.
The space highlights technology while respecting ASU’s desire to incorporate sustainable design. The design integrated as many “sustainable” options that the fast-track schedule and existing building conditions allow for. The design also optimizes shared spaces to help reduce costs and allow for efficient programming. The theater design supports an immersive environment. Theater design features include a 270-degree video screen with seating for up to 20 people. The video screen will show 3-dimensional computer models animated by the 4th dimension of time. Researchers at ASU will develop the computer models to illustrate complex multivariate problems and to allow the audience to interact with the data in real time to explore alternative scenarios. This interactive visualization and modeling allows the audience to view holistic results that show how all variables come into play. The Decision Theater is a key element of the entire ASU Decision Center for the New Arizona project.
