As a part of an overall plan to improve its service and facilities, Kenosha Transit sought to develop a new Maintenance and Operations Facility for anticipated expansion in their fleet size over the next 20 years. The initial and crucial step in this effort was the development of a comprehensive site design for the entire proposed site.
The goal of the design team was to develop a facility and site master plan including all elements of the current facilities, while providing an opportunity for Kenosha Transit to replace aging, inefficient, and substandard facilities. They also wanted to increase the capacity of maintenance and storage from 55 to 65 buses; organize the proposed site layout to organize cross traffic patterns; and configure the bus parking/storage to enhance circulation and reduce unnecessary bus movements.
The team worked to incorporate the ideas and insights of the various project stakeholders in the most efficient way possible by utilizing an innovative, interactive, and creative approach resulting in unique master planning solutions.
