The City of Avondale, Arizona retained the design-build team of Johnson Carlier Contractors and RNL, with principal planning consultant Maintenance Design Group, to design and build the new Avondale Municipal Operations Service Center. The city was already operating its field operations from two separate sites with some operations on the existing 23-acre parcel. RNL and MDG initially developed a master plan to expand the existing site and then RNL designed the new 34,000 sf Operations Building to provide administration, operations and warehousing space for the Field Operations, Utilities, Traffic Engineering and Parks & Facilities Maintenance departments. The project also included approximately 10,000 sf of covered storage plus a new vehicle wash facility.
Future phases will expand the complex to over 100,000 sf, including expanding the existing vehicle maintenance building and the new operations building, as well as adding future covered parking and storage facilities for the City’s fleet of vehicles and materials. The site will ultimately be expanded to approximately 35 acres at build-out.
